24/01/2009 · Gerbils do make excellent pocket pets for young children. While I do not recommend that any child under age 7 or so be the primary caregiver for any animal, young children can care for gerbils with adult supervision.
Gerbils are quite often chosen as a good pet for children and they can be for all the aforementioned reasons. However, this conclusion comes with caveats such as you cant just buy your child a gerbil and leave them to it. This situation would very rarely work out well, in fact, its likely to be a disaster.
