The first engine of this family, introduced for the 1962 model year as an option on the Fairlane and Meteor, had a displacement of 221 cu in (3.6 L), from a 3.5 in (89 mm) bore and 2.87 in (72.9 mm) stroke, with wedge combustion chambers for excellent breathing.221. The original flathead engine displaced 221 cu in (3.6 L), with 3.0625 by 3.75 in (77.79 by 95.25 mm) bore and stroke. The block was cast as a single piece for durability, and a singlebarrel carburetor fed the engine. The 1932 V818 with 5.51 compression produced 65 hp (48 kW).
